This exhibition is a revelation. We went on the off chance, assuming it would be too specialist for us (avant-garde Japanese fashion?), then fell in love—with the clothes, the colours, the fabrics, the intelligence of every single thing on display. Rei Kawakubo is clearly a genius designer. This is often said, but this exhibition proves it conclusively. The same goes for Junya Watanabe. But it’s the exhibition as a whole, masterfully curated by Akiko Fukai, that is so thought provoking.
