Box Office opens Tues, 25 June at 9am
Word up: Booking opens this Tuesday (25th June) at 9am for the new season of plays at the Donmar Warehouse. We’ve set reminders for ourselves to book for two plays in particular. The first, which opens the season on 1st August, is a new play by Nick Payne, whose wonderful two-hander, Constellations, won an Evening Standard Award last year, before transferring from a sell-out run at the Royal Court to the West End. Payne’s new play, The Same Deep Water as Me, set in a Luton personal injury lawyer’s office, will be directed by John Crowley, whose work we always love and look out for. (If you’ve never seen his movie, Intermission, get it on DVD now. It’s a gem). It’s cast list is impressive all round, but it’s Monica Dolan (so good as Rose West in Consenting Adult, for which she won a BAFTA) that we really can’t wait to see.
The second is Coriolanus, directed by the Donmar’s artistic director, Josie Rourke. We’ve only seen this play on a large stage, when it is intense and bloody enough, so are more than curious to see what Rourke does with it in the intimate setting of the Donmar. Tom Hiddleston plays Coriolanus and the ever brilliant Mark Gatiss (of League of Gentleman and Sherlock fame), Menenius. Phones to the ready, people. The Donmar isn’t big and tickets go fast.
