MUSIC & THEATRE
Until 30 August 2015
The annual Meltdown festival is always guaranteed to be a little off the wall, curated as it is each year by different musicians and performers (Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Jarvis Cocker) so we were very excited when it was announced that David Byrne would be taking the reins this year and if you haven’t yet booked there are still plenty of great things to do and see for the rest of the month. First up, why not stop by the the Royal Festival Hall and check out Byrne’s personal library which has been transported to the South Bank for the duration of the event – you can even borrow his books, you simply have to join the library which is free. On Friday there’s the Meltdown Big Brass Busk which promises to be heaps of fun and the weekend sees performances from Benjamin Clementine, Carmen Consoli, Anna Calvi and Petra Haden who will also be leading an a cappella workshop this Saturday. Next week there are plenty more treats including the fiery Spanish flamenco sensation Estrella Morente and a four evening run (27-30 August) of Young Jean Lee’s We’re Gonna Die (which got rave reviews from the New York Times when it was originally staged) in which David Byrne will perform. We’ll see you there!
