Half-term is just a few weeks away and as always the Imagine Children’s Festival is brilliantly timed as a holiday escape from blustery February weather. This year’s 10 days of music, shows, exhibitions, workshops and of course readings, taps into the Southbank Centre’s year long Nordic Matters theme so expect a strong leaning towards all things Scandi, not least the on-going Moominland exhibition. There are free Lego building sessions with Lego master builders, fun sounding, pedal-powered screenings of Disney’s The Little Mermaid (originally a Hans Christian Andersen classic of course) as well as the UK debut of the Finnish children’s heavy metal band Heavisaurus on 15th February. The Immersive Neverland sessions for smaller children (on 8th and 9th February) sound charming and we are really looking forward to the marvellous Aurora Orchestra performance of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. There are plenty of starry names dropping in too, from Julian Clary to a live Q&A with Michael Morpurgo. Tickets for key events sell out quickly so book soon and if you don’t get round to booking then do make the most of the drop in sessions and free events.
