ART & SHOPPING
Until 16 June 2017
Such is the popularity of South African artist Hylton Nel’s characterful ceramics (think Grayson Perry crossed with Ai Weiwei) that The Fine Art Society are presenting his fourth solo exhibition. Taking references from Staffordshire and Wedgwood pottery, together with Chinese Tang Dynasty ceramics and Greek and Etruscan vases, Nel often covers his ceramics in written script taken from poetry, folk law and children’s stories. Like Perry, there’s a great deal of humour in his work and amongst our favourites are the cats and mermaids which give a surreal edge to to his work. The show is on until 16 June, do make sure you don’t miss it.
