Tom Hanks in conversation about Uncommon Type

Tickets go on sale this coming Tuesday 1st August at 10am (to members of the Southbank Centre only, on sale to the public the following morning 2nd August also at 10am) to hear Tom Hanks read from and talk about his first book, Uncommon Type.  Whilst, we were at first a little wary (and not a little weary) about another actor hopping on the literary circuit, we’ve heard that his book – a series of short stories connected by the appearance of a typewriter –  is actually rather good.  Hanks has already had his work published in The New York Times, Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, the last of which secured his book offer and apparently, he spent the last two years writing the book whilst on film sets.  Tickets aren’t cheap, ranging from £45 – £70 but they do include a copy of Uncommon Type (rap £16.99).  As a popular actor, tickets will sell out quickly though, so we’d advise that you are ready and waiting at your computer at 10am sharp!
