The Power of Poetry, William Sieghart in conversation with Jeanette Winterson

Poetry holds the power to ease every human suffering whether it’s loneliness, lack of courage, heartbreak, hopelessness, or even the excess of ego. So goes William Sieghart’s bestseller The Poetry Pharmacy: Tried-and-True Prescriptions for the Heart, Mind and Soul, the extraordinary book that charts his own experience of prescribing poems to people in need.

At INTELLIGENCE²’s evening event, William Sieghart will be in conversation with novelist Jeanette Winterson, discussing the transformative power of the poetry. Finding the right poem at the right moment is not just a problem shared, Sieghart says, but a problem transformed. It is ‘to discover a powerful sense of complicity, and that precious realisation: I’m not the only one who feels like this.’

During the evening, a fantastic line-up of actors including Helena Bonham Carter, Sophie Okonedo, Tom Burke and Sue Perkins will bring the poems to dramatic life.
