Book Festival: book now for Words in the Park in Holland Park

This is the first ever Words in the Park book festival and we think it sounds fantastic. A literary festival in the heart of London that feels like it’s in the middle of the countryside? What’s not to love? The line up is great, with talks on everything from Palestine to fashion, the setting is beautiful and how great for us Londoners to be able to dip in and out without having to think about accommodation or a drive. To give you a taste of some of the highlights: Jung Chang will be discussing her seminal book, Wild Swans, 21 years after its publication, Jeremy Paxman will speak about What the Empire did for Britain, P.D. James and Penelope Lively will talk to each other on murder, Jane Austen and who knows what else, Sandi Toksvig and John McCarthy will discuss Palestine and the Middle East, plus Andrew Marr on Elizabeth II, Alain de Botton on religion, John Bercow on democracy and parliament, A.S. Byatt, A.A. Gill, Tony Benn, Maureen Lipman and lots of others, all equally good.

One event we definitely won’t be missing is Sophie Dahl and Mary McCartney discussing foodie delights on Friday 18 May at 12.45pm (chaired by yours truly, yep, Daisy from A-LittleBird). If you’d like to come too, good news, because we’ve three pairs of tickets for the talk to giveaway, as well as a bundle of cook books. It promises to be a lovely event, as both women are great cooks, writers and talkers. The three winners will not only score a pair of tickets to the talk itself, but a hardback copy of both Food by Mary McCartney, and From Season to Season: A Year in Recipes by Sophie Dahl, plus a paperback of Sophie’s previous book, the scrumptious Miss Dahl’s Voluptuous Delights. To win the whole caboodle, just fill in the form below by 5pm on Friday 27th April and we’ll pick three lucky winners out of a hat.
