Art: Tord Boontje’s magical world of lace

Phil Sayer

The Dutch industrial designer Tord Boontje, who created the award-winning garland light for Habitat and has collaborated with Hermès, Swarovski and Alexander McQueen, has turned his attention to lace. As so often in his work, Boontje draws inspiration from nature to explore the intricate technique of lace-making and through raw materials such as grass and raffia he creates extraordinary, otherworldly results.
