Jason Atherton, former chef at Maze and protégé of Gordon Ramsay, has opened his very own restaurant, Pollen Street Social. But this isn’t an old man’s drinking club. Just around the corner from Hanover Square, this is grown-up dining perfect for a date or a celebratory meal or if you just feel like some elegant, tasty food. There are two airy rooms with a buzzing drinks bar and two waiters waving cocktail bottles in the first and a more formal dining room with a dessert bar in the second. The menu is satisfyingly autumnal with scallop ceviche, roasted Dingley Dell pork belly and loin and even a full English Breakfast. And the puddings don’t disappoint either, the wild strawberry and vanilla cheesecake is delicious as is the rice pudding. Service is slick and you even leave with a goodie bag to take home. No wonder it’s the talk of the town.
