Shopping: Christmas presents for impossible people to buy for

Sometimes our minds go blank when it comes to buying Christmas presents for certain people (bosses, mothers-in-law and great uncles come to mind). Well, having done a search of the shops, online and on the high street, here’s what has made it onto our must-buy list.

For the seen-and-read-it-alls:

The second (and just as brilliant) series of the Danish version of The Killing is available at Amazon from December 19th. Order it now at £25.99 and you’ll have it in time for Christmas.

Our male friends who saw this found it really funny so we’re giving it to all our nephews and brothers. It’s available from Monday 12th December from Amazon.

We’ve yet to find a person that didn’t chuckle over and love this book by Craig Brown, a series of 101 true-life encounters. It’s down from £16.99 to £9.99 at Amazon.

Has Wickham been murdered? P.D James revisits Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice with a mixture of intrigue, death and suspense. A complete treat for £8.55 at Amazon.

Who doesn’t love getting a brilliant cookery book for Christmas? We hugely recommend this book by the very knowledgeable and able Dan Lepard as a present for any baker, beginner or advanced. Buy it for £12.50 (down from £25) at Amazon.

For the have-it-alls (old and young):

Beautiful leather purses from Mimi Berry, now on sale for only £40 each (and more stock coming in throughout December so try again if your favourite colours aren’t available).

Who’s your favourite Bond Girl? These will liven up any card game. £2.99 from Amazon.

A kids Croyola ‘colouring’ pen for your i-Pad. Genius. £29.99 from Firebox.

We bought our daughter a doll from the site, Good Golly Miss Dolly, and she absolutely adores it. Selling proper old fashioned dollies (as opposed to pneumatic-breasted Barbies) from £15 upwards, you can also get accompanying furniture and vintage dolls clothing.

Add some humour (and a lot of colour) to someone’s life with this Grayson Perry cloth bag from the British Museum, £7.99.

We couldn’t resist these adorable German felt animals at £10.95 each from Selvidge.

A brilliant box of suggestions, anecdotes, signs and games. £14.04 on Amazon.

And finally, we were given six of these vintage, hand-blown champagne coupes last year and can testify that they make you feel wonderfully glamorous. £120 for all 6 from Valeria Arieta, 97b Kensington Church Road, W8 7LN, tel: 020 7243 1074.
