Celia Birtwell, one of our favourite textile designers and a fashion legend, is moving her shop and for this reason is having a big clearance sale. Her wonderful fabrics (we have a roman blind made from her Red Beasties, and are constantly asked where we got it from) will be on sale with prices beginning at £10 a metre. Birtwell’s fabrics usually retail between £50 and £80, so this is a chance for a real bargain. Plus there will be lucky dip bags at £20, each stuffed with 2 – 3 meters of fabric remnants – some silks, some cottons, some linens, and some a mix of all three.
Also, you should know that Birtwell’s new premises will be in a West London studio and open by appointment only (or you can buy her designs via her excellent website), so this will be the last chance to snuffle round a Birtwell shop. A bit of a moment.
One last thing: we were recently given Birtwell’s book, Celia Birtwell, a memoir-come-scrap book-come photo album, and have been pouring over it. Everyone looks so groovy. It makes you long to wear print and hang out with a young David Hockney. A great present for self or one of those folk who are hard to shop for.
