Shopping, Art & Kids: Zombie Collective take over Hayward Shop, plus 3 great workshops for budding young artists
We love it when the Hayward Gallery shop gives itself over to special guest designers, and this season’s ‘This Is Not A Pop-Up’ concession sounds great. From 17 May, the shop will be taken over by the Zombie Collective, a group of artists and illustrators who met at Kingston University, and who have invited other artists to join them in in creating work with a nautical theme to celebrate the shop’s riverside location. Welcome to Fathoms Deep. On sale will be prints, cards, deck chairs and other sea-faring paraphernalia, as well other work by the Zombies. Best of all: there will be loads of stuff to do as well as buy – great if you are planning a weekend trip to the Southbank and bringing kids. Every Saturday between the 17th May and 3rd June, there will be free (though booking essential) water inspired workshops for budding artists aged six and over. Kids can learn to make their own typographic treasure maps (X Marks the Spot), creatures from the deep (Barnacled Beasts) or a mini-boat with its own custom made flag (Mini Armada). And as well as the workshops there will be things going on for all ages on the same Saturdays (no booking necessary and also free) – so you can letterpress your own cards, make maritime badges or adorn yourself with specially designed nautical tattoos. Ships ahoy!
