Books & Talks: book now for Women’s Prize for Fiction Shortlist Readings: Hilary Mantel, Zadie Smith, Barbara Kingsolver, A.M. Homes, Maria Semple, Kate Atkinson
Blimey. A chance to see not one internationally major writer reading and discussing her work, but six of them, all together, all at once. Sort of a moment, isn’t it. Sort of unmissable. The six writers – Hilary Mantel, Zadie Smith, Kate Atkinson, Maria Semple, Barbara Kingsolver and A.M. Homes – are on the shortlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction (what was called the Orange Prize for Fiction), and what strong contenders they all are. The question, of course, is whether Mantel will score a third big win for Bring Up The Bodies (the book has already won the Man Booker Prize and the Costa). It’ll be front page news either way, so the atmosphere at the readings is bound to be especially charged. More to the point, though, is the fact that Mantel is in such good company. We’re big fans of all the writers and their work, and have heard Mantel and Zadie Smith read their work before. Both are quite mesmerising on stage – as are, no doubt, the others: Barbara Kingsolver, Kate Atkinson, A.M. Homes and Maria Semple. Start penning your questions now, and book tickets right away – they are going fast – for this singular and fiercely promising evening.
