Grayson Perry’s Reith Lectures on Radio 4

The first visual artist to be invited to give the annual Reith Lectures (former participants include the Burmese opposition politician Aung San Suu Kyi), Perry’s half hour talks are exactly what you’d expect.  Funny, questioning and informative, the first one is entitled Democracy Has Bad Taste and examines how art ends up on museum walls.  It was broadcast this morning on Radio 4 and we loved it.  If you missed it, you can listen to it on BBC i-Player and there are 3 more to come, all covering the themes of what makes Perry an artist, the limits of contemporary art, how to gauge the quality of new artworks and the future of the avant-garde. Catch them all here or download the podcasts (available indefinitely) here.
