It’s taken ten years for Sir David Hare to bring Skylight back to the West End and the new production directed by Stephen Daldry and starring Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy promises to be amongst this summer’s most talked about theatre. It will be the second time Nighy has played the successful restauranteur Tom, who reappears in Kyra’s life one evening after the death of his wife. The pair have not seen each other since an affair three years before and the complexities of their clashing values and messy past bubble to the surface as they attempt to rekindle their romance. It’s a West End debut for Mulligan, who most recently was on Broadway in Ingmar Bergman’s Through the Glass Darkly where she was described as electrifying on stage. Although it was in Chekhov’s The Seagull that David Hare first decided that she would make a compelling Kyra. It goes without saying that this will be a sell-out and tickets are already selling fast but there are still plenty available so don’t delay and book now.
