Nina Stibbe at the Books That Built Me Salon

We have raved about the Books That Built Me salon before. The desert island discs for books format teases out the most brilliant revelations from writers we love – we knew the salon was going to be a hit when it kicked off with Sarah Churchwell explaining why reading The Great Gatsby was a life-changing experience. The next salon will again be held at the Café Royal and one of our favourite new writers, Nina Stibbe will be choosing the books that made her want to write. We are huge fans of Nina’s first book Love, Nina – a hilarious collection of letters written to her sister when Nina was a young nanny. It is a book that is sure to become an ultimate comfort read for many and we first raved about it here. As Andrew O’Hagan has said, she is the ‘funniest new writer to arrive in years.’ And joy of joys, her first novel Man at the Helm is published this week. It has been compared to Dodie Smith’s I Capture the Castle and if anything, it is funnier and odder (in a good way) than Love, Nina. All, in all, we’re very much looking forward to hearing the books that built Nina Stibbe. The ticket price for Nina’s event includes a hardback copy of Man at the Helm, a pre-event cocktail and a goody bag.
