Hampstead Theatre Festival: Page to Stage

What an impressive and interesting line-up the Hampstead Theatre has gathered together for its inaugural drama and literary festival. Celia Imrie, Ian Bostridge, Fiona Bruce, Nina Raine, Meera Syal, David Walliams, Dame Janet Suzman, Tim McInnery, Kate Mosse, Joe Penhall, Mark Lawson, Kathy Lette, Michael Howells, and many more will be taking part in talks, readings and  workshops about the process of transforming words from the page into performance. There will be thirty events over three days from 27th to 29th March, and if you are studying or interested in any aspect of theatre or performance or indeed writing or illustration, this is the festival for you. It covers so much: playwriting and adaptation, creative writing, book illustration, making work for children, writing for the radio, performing and writing comedy, casting a play or film, designing sets for the theatre, working on a musical, interpreting Lieder and opera, creating a spectacle-type show, dramatising politics, working with Puppetry, and, yes, more!  There’s even a Shakespeare workshop for teenagers (great if they are studying his plays at school).

If, like us, you just enjoy watching theatre and performance rather than creating it, do also check out the programme as there is lots to simply sit back and relish, including In Conversations with Sheila Hancock, Paul O’Grady, Ian Bostridge, and David Walliams.
