Mayfair and St James’ Art Weekend

Now in it’s second year, the Browns Hotel Art Weekend celebrates over 150 years of art in Mayfair and St James’ with more than 100 galleries and auction houses opening their doors to the public.   There are talks at Brown’s Hotel, a huge amount of exhibitions and help in choosing which ones to see with recommended walks by Paul Smith and Nicole Farhi.  Mark Hix, Director of Food at Browns Hotel, has collaborated with some of the artists whose work is displayed at the hotel and created a special seasonal menu.

The Royal Academy are joining in too with a street party, the Burlington Gardens Festival, on 4th July with artist hosts including Richard Wilson, Yinka Shonibare and Will Alsop.  Burlington Gardens will be pedestrianised with performances, talks, workshops and music.  There will be food and drink for sale from artisan producers, Italian food from Cecconi’s and American food for Independence Day.  Together with print-making and drawing workshops, with special activities for children.  And we’re particularly looking forward to seeing the temporary hidden bridge between Piccadilly and Burlington Gardens, with rarely seen historic studios of the RA specially opened, which will later become a permanent structure when Sir David Chipperfield’s designs for the redevelopment of the RA are revealed in 2018.
