Having grown up with opera-mad parents, I’ve spent a fair amount of time at the opera. However, despite knowing much of the music, having recently been to the exhibition Opera: Passion, Power & Politics at the V&A, I discovered that there was still a lot about opera and it’s origin that I didn’t know.  The show reveals the fascinating history of how opera came into existence and it’s subsequent political and musical milestones.  It ranges from Vienna to Moscow, from Handel to Philip Glass and includes some beautiful sets and costumes.  In addition, if you head to the V&A this weekend, there will be a series of free performances, workshops and events themed around opera taking over the V&A. Called ‘The Opera Weekender‘, it will feature a contemporary opera inspired by love in the age of social media, a workshop by Streetwise Opera who bring opera to the homeless, plus other screenings, lectures and concerts. To celebrate, A Little Bird have teamed up with the museum to offer you a special offer of £10 tickets to the exhibition (a full price adult ticket is normally £19) using the code: OPERABIRD.  The offer is valid on all tickets booked online (vam.ac.uk/opera) and expires 30 November 2017.
