The lockdown has proven to be a productive time for Ruth Rogers and her team at The River Cafe. First they opened an online shop, which they had thought would be temporary but it has been such a success that it will now expand and continue. Secondly, they decided to open a new restaurant (it officially opened on December 2nd).
Named after Ruthie’s mother, a librarian and trade union activist, Sylvia’s is housed in the former meeting rooms of Richard Rogers Architects, on the River Walk in Hammersmith, just across the garden from the main restaurant. The menu (see a sample below) is similar to The River Cafe but with a greater emphasis on winter vegetables, with pastas, risottos and soups – making it cheaper than it’s sister restaurant. There is also the complete selection of River Cafe desserts available including the delicious Chocolate Nemesis cake. Sylvia’s has just 10 tables with the chefs cooking in an open kitchen and is open from 6pm only for dinner. The decoration is simple with a neon pink wall onto which a River Cafe clock is projected. To make it a little more festive, there is a Christmas Tree and a pianist playing on the piano (with the occasional addition of a guest diner singing too). It is, of course, already a big hit so do get booking now. Call+442073864200 or email.
