Has it been a few years since you’ve been skiing? With all the travel chaos, it’s been almost impossible to get away and particularly up into the mountains. But, the Alps are calling this winter and the lifts are open for business. We cannot wait to strap on a pair of skis and feel the sun on our faces.

Rent Your Attire
If you are only an occasional skier, renting attire is a great option. EcoSki rental is worth checking out and has lot of up to date kit available. In addition to men’s and women’s, you can also rent junior skiwear, which we especially love.
Orders placed before 11.30am Monday thru Friday can be delivered next business day. Minimum number of days is four.
How adorable is this ski suit from Dinoski? One of the many items to rent by the day from the juniors section. If you fall in love, you can even buy it for a discounted price.

Where We Are Staying
Zermatt
For a truly special winter trip, head for Zermatt. Home of the picturesque Matterhorn, it is undoubtably one of the most beautiful resorts in Switzerland. Nearly all visitors take a train from Visp to arrive as Zermatt itself is car-free. This is part of the charm, allowing for breath-taking mountain views and building the anticipation of arrival.
In addition to the epic skiing, Zermatt is known for wonderful mountain restaurants. Be sure to book your lunch at Zum See, set in a charming mountain hamlet, and Chez Vrony, right on the piste with wonderful views of the Matterhorn.
We love the traditional feel of the Monte Rosa Hotel, the oldest in Zermatt dating back to 1853. Their sister hotel, Mont Cervin Palace, has a huge spa and pool area, family rooms, and a kids club.
For an apartment-style stay, Chalet Bull still has some availability in February and March for their boutique apartments close to the centre of town.
Meribel
Meribel, France is a great place to ski with friends and family. Calling itself the “Heart of the Three Valleys”, the resort sits in the centre of one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. Founded by Scottish Colonel Peter Lindsay in the 1930s, you will likely find as many Brits roaming about town as French. This does make it easy to book lessons in English for the little ones (we recommend New Generation) and to get things done generally. Part of the fun is skiing down to neighbouring valleys of Val Thorens and Courchevel. We love Le Clos Bernard for lunch and La Folie Douce shouldn’t be missed for proper apres ski.
Fly to Geneva and it’s a relatively quick two hours to reach Meribel Village.
If you are looking for a place to stay, Ski in Luxury has availability at Chalet Le Pousse Caillou. Just 10 minutes walk to Meribel Village, this gorgeous chalet sleeps 10-14 people and includes a cinema room and outdoor hot tub.
Lech
Lech is a lovely, small village in Austria that offers great skiing and some seriously high-end living.  It’s history of skiing starts with Father Johann Müller who, in 1895, skied down the slopes at night with some Scandinavian ‘skis’. You’ll find some fun shops (Strolz is good for modern skiwear), delicious restaurants and everything is very easy to find in what is essentially a one-road town (not including some of the outer villages of Lech which also offer great accommodation).  Although rather pricey to stay at, there is a great spa at the Hotel Almhof Schneider – you can also eat there, even if you aren’t a guest.  More traditional is the Hotel Gottard which offers comfortable rooms and is extremely central, as is the Romantic Hotel Die Krone.
Our favourite hotel is the Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel with two pools, one indoor and one outdoor, which combines traditional buildings with a modern interior – it’s a member of the Design Hotels.  You can choose from family lodges, suites and the Wooden Cube which has a beautiful view up  to the Madloch.  The food is delicious (particularly the Chef’s Table) and the staff very friendly.
