We still remember our first Punchdrunk theatrical experience clearly, even though it was 15 years ago. Pioneers of immersive theatrical productions, it felt like you had actually taken part in the play itself, not just sat on a chair and looked at it. The attention to detail was astounding, visually it was beautiful and we came out raving to everyone about it for the next month. Since then (it was one of Punchdrunk’s first major productions), the company has grown but recently it has taken an 8 year hiatus. This year (and thankfully, hopefully post-covid), they are returning with a new production – their largest ever live show. The Burnt City tells the story of the fall of Troy and transposes it to a future parallel world. The production will take place in the company’s new home at Woolwich Arsenal – taking over two Grade II Listed Buildings as part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s new creative district, Woolwich Works. It will be the first time some of the buildings have ever been opened to the public and the huge size of these buildings (think dizzying heights and over 100,000 square feet of space) offers the company the chance to think big.
