Growing up working at an American drive-in movie theatre created a lifetime love of watching a film outdoors. When warm weather rolls around, we are inevitably looking for places to partake in this forever-summer activity.
With two locations, in Peckham and Stratford, Rooftop sets viewers high up, giving moviegoers exceptional views of London. Also offered are comfortable deckchairs and headphones, so the sound quality is great. The schedule is a mix ranging from cult classics all the way to new releases.
There still time to catch 80s favourite Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on August 5th, but movies run until the start of September. We also have our eye on the new Brad Pitt movie, Bullet Train, showing on September 5th.
There are only a few days left to catch a movie at Everyman on the Canal, which runs until August 7th. Movies are shown throughout the day from 1pm to 730pm.
We’re dreaming of a few cocktails with girlfriends at Coal Drops Yard, followed by the August 6th screening of Mean Girls.
All screenings are free, so simply turn up on the day.
Merchant Square, near Paddington Station, is also showing free movies along the Regent’s Canal. Again, no booking is required here, so if the weather is good you can just pop along as little as 15 minutes before start time.. There are even lawn chairs available on a first come basis.

Operating from various locations around London, you are sure to find something that fits the bill at The Luna Cinema. With dates well into August, you can still book for films at Kensington Palace, Dulwich Park, Wimbledon Park, Hampton Court Palace, and a single showing of West Side Story at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
For kids, book now for the Encanto Sing Along at Kew Gardens on August 31st. A last, fun, family outing before back to school.
Starting the 23rd of August, Barbican has a series of open-air screenings of films taking inspiration from their exhibit Our Time on Earth, with a focus on each film’s setting. Tickets are on sale now for a wide selection of films including Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii and Hayao Miyazaki’s stunning animated fantasy, Princess Mononoke.
