We went to a wedding at Pythouse in Wiltshire and have been dreaming about going back ever since. The pretty eighteenth century walled garden and restaurant leads onto a six-tent glampsite that you can take over exclusively for private parties – it’s just opened for the season so now is the time to book.
Pythouse restaurant is known for its food (Giles Coren scored it straight 10/10’s when he reviewed it last summer) and nearly all the seasonal produce comes from the kitchen garden that it overlooks. The rest – like chalkstream trout and wild venison – is sourced from the best local suppliers. Head Chef Darren Broom has worked with Marco Pierre White and Michael Caines and the cooking is a real treat, but the vibe here is relaxed and down-to-earth.
Stay the night in the cluster of bell tents in the orchard, each with proper beds. There are piping hot showers as well as a large covered party area, a kitchen and cocktail bar for you to use. Book a feast at the restaurant for a special meal and then you can cook for yourself in the glampsite as you like – they will even deliver pre-prepped produce for you to cook on the open fire. The perfect summer party spot for 12-24 people.
Weekend bookings cost £2000 for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) with exclusive use of the site for a maximum of 12 people. Up to 24 people can stay, with extra beds (up to 4 beds in each tent) for £110 per bed. Price includes a ready-to-go breakfast. Under 2’s stay free.
Weekday bookings cost £950 (Monday – Thursday) with extra beds £67.50 per bed.
