Alexandra Tolstoy's Cottage
Alexandra Tolstoy bought her Oxfordshire cottage in 2004 and some years later after a flood, bought in Emma Burns of Colefax & Fowler to help her ‘pull it all together.’ With a small but lovely garden and three bedrooms, the former worker’s cottage is full of character. Tolstoy’s aunt, an antiques dealer, has helped her to gather together an impressive ceramics collection and there are beautiful vintage bedspreads on iron bedsteads. There is an aga to warm yourself in winter and a table with chairs to sit outside in summer.

North Farm
Rita Konig’s Farmhouse in Durham is a seven bedroom stone house that Rita and her husband recently renovated. Set in 380 acres and 2 hours 20 from London, it has 3 sitting rooms with open fires or wood-burners, 7-8 bedrooms and a huge games room. The large kitchen is built by Plain English and the bedrooms include a William Yeoward designed bed. As you’d expect from Konig, it’s elegant but extremely comfortable and makes you feel instantly at home.

Kin House
On a rather larger, grander scale is Kin House. The Grade II Georgian Manor in Wiltshire is opening this month and is available to hire for private events. It has been renovated by Barlow & Barlow and boasts 12 bedrooms with walled gardens and a private woodland. There is a study, bar, a Gucci dressing room and also Kilvert Hall, an event space attached to the house that can hold up to 200 people. It’s perfect for anything from team retreats to weddings and birthday celebrations.
