How to Celebrate Halloween

Blame it on lockdown, but our new-found ability to have parties means we’re already excited about Halloween this year. We’re going all out – pumpkins galore, proper costumes, spooky decorations – the planning is well underway. Here are some of the things on our radar.

Pumpkin patches are a bit of a tradition in America, and there are more and more opening each year in the UK. It might just be time to get involved.

Pumpkin Week at Secrett’s in Surrey starts October 24th and extends to Halloween. Tickets are just £3, and you must book ahead to avoid disappointment. In addition to choosing your favourite pumpkin there will be a bbq and pumpkin-themed menu for visitors. Wear your Halloween outfit and post a photo to Instagram for a weekly chance to win a hamper of goodies from the Secrett’s farm shop.

Foxes Farm Produce also has two pumpkin patches this year – in Colchester and Basildon. Again, be sure to book in advance for weekend picking.

Just outside Esher, Garsons farm has lots of Spooky Halloween October Activies planned. Young children will love the spooky silhouette trail, where they can spot belongings left behind by Gertrude the Witch. There is also a colouring competition. Check ahead for other activities over half term.

In London, Bluebird Chelsea is hosting a pumpkin carving class. Be quick to book as there are very limited spaces available. Tickets are £35 per person for a two hour session and include a soft drink for children / Cointreau cocktail for adults. All pumpkins and equipment will be provided.

Thursday 28th October 11am tickets – buy here.
Saturday 30th October 11am tickets – buy here.

If pumpkins aren’t your thing, Biscuiteers has some Halloween themed DIY kits to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Host your own Halloween party with decor and tableware from Meri Meri.

Finally, here are some of the best children’s costumes we’ve seen this year so far…
