Arabella Preston’s top tips for Winter Skin plus win a Votary Natural Glow Day Cream

COMPETITION CLOSED

We talk to co-founder of Votary, Arabella Preston, about her recommendations for winter beauty and living.

How do you change your summer beauty routine to your winter one?

Winter skincare is about masking and nourishing layers. My skin can get dry and sensitive in the cold air, so I switch to our Super Seed range which is fragrance free and super nourishing. This winter I have been using our new Radiance Reveal Mask, which is a lactic and mandelic acid peel mask, to gently resurface my skin and address any sun damage from the summer months. I then smooth Super Seed Serum and Super Seed Facial Oil all over my skin, to give it the moisture and tlc that my skin needs.

How do you energise yourself in winter?  What exercise do you do?

I do regular yoga classes on zoom, including a restorative class which I find really helps my quality of sleep. In addition to that we have a dog, so I take daily stomps across the fields regardless of the weather!

What would you recommend for somebody with dry but also combination skin?

Firstly, switch to a cleansing oil! It’s amazing how transforming they can be…hydrating dry areas, reducing oil in others. They bring balance and glow to your skin quickly. Then I would try the Radiance Reveal Mask. An AHA mask can really help with congestion, and the gentle exfoliation you get will remove any dead, dull skin from your face.

What are you enjoying listening to, reading and watching this winter?

I have just finished listening to the audio book of Miriam Margolyes’ memoir This Much is True. So far in January I have read The consequences of Love by Gavanndra Hodge and Anya Hindmarch’s If in doubt wash your hair. All brilliant books. I’ve realised that they are all non-fiction! We’ve been watching After Life and have started rewatching 30 Rock (both Netflix) to bring a bit of January joy.

What’s your favourite winter comfort food that you cook at home?

Enormous bowls of pasta. I am not that fussy about what goes on them!

How do you treat dry lips?

I take my cleansing oil over my lips, then remove with a flannel (at the same time I am cleansing the rest of my face). It works a treat on dry lips!

How do you treat dry body areas such as feet, hands and elbows?

I soak in a hot bath every evening then slather our Antidote oil all over my body when I get out. I also use our Body Treatment Oil – it contains salicylic acid to help soften dry, hard skin.

Do you take any special supplements at this time of year?

Yes. I take our Super Seed Nutritional Supplement year round – it is a great vegan alternative omega oil. As I am recovering from Covid at the moment I am also taking our Super Sleep Supplement to help me get enough rest. It contains lemon balm and magnesium, as well as L-Tryptophan and L-Theanine – it works a treat!

Where would you go for a dream holiday or overnight stay to recharge?

I don’t live in London so a night in a hotel there is a good change of scene. My favourite is always The Rosewood London – particularly as you will now find Votary amenities in the rooms. For longer trips, nothing beats a Greek island holiday and planning that on a cold and dark January evening always brings a warm glow.

We’re very happy to say that we have a pot of the brand new Votary Natural Glow Day Cream to give away to one lucky reader.  Just enter your details below by 5pm on Friday 11th February 2022 and we will pick a winner out of a hat.  Please note the the prize will be sent directly to the winner from Votary. Good luck!
