It’s been a week since the start of the war in Ukraine. If, like us, you’re feeling helpless watching from afar, here are some of the ways to actively support the Ukrainian people, from protests in London to interiors auctions and charity fashion sales.
Interiors Auctions
The Ultimate Interiors Virtual Charity Auction
By Alice Home has pulled together a whole roster of top interiors brands who have all donated items to be auctioned off this weekend in aid of Choose Love’s Ukraine Crisis Fundraiser. Sophie Conran scalloped bedlinen, Hot Pottery spatterware and Common Room wallpaper are just some of the things on sale. Bidding runs from 5 March at 12pm to 6 March at 9pm, here.
There are 3 hand-painted lampshade designs to shop at Hum London, all in Ukrainian yellow and blue. 100% of profits go to Choose Love, available here.
We love this image, Spring’s Arrival by Gemma Koomen. It’s just one of the cards and prints available on her webshop now where 100% of retail profits will go to Unicef UK’s emergency fund to protect children in Ukraine. Shop here.
Domenica Marland x Host Flump Frames
Buy a yellow or blue Flump frame from Domenica Marland this week and 30% of profits will go to Unicef’s Ukraine fundraiser. Order here.
Fashion Sales
Amanda Brooks’ designer clothing sale
Amanda Brooks is opening up her covetable designer wardrobe for a special sale this weekend. 100% of all proceeds will go to the British Red Cross in support of Ukraine and The Branch Trust in Chipping Norton. There will be items from Valentino, Celine, Chanel, Proenza Schouler, Khaite, Love Shack Fancy, Doen, Tory Burch, Masscob, Horror Vacui, and more. It runs 4-5 March 10am-5pm at Crossways House, First Floor, Stow-on-the-Wold, GL54 1AB.
Cressida Jamieson Choose Love T-shirt
We’ve ordered this embroidered white T-shirt with the Ukrainian colours in aid of Choose Love. It’s just sold out, but you can sign up to get notified when the next drop comes in here.
Charlie Mackesy’s Love to Ukraine T-shirts
White cotton T-shirts, £20 with £12.50 of every sale going towards Choose Love. Adults and children’s T-shirts are available here.
John Lewis Partnership Red Cross Appeal
John Lewis has donated £100,000 to the British Red Cross in support of their Ukraine Crisis Appeal. They will also match donations made by customers and Partners (up to £150,000) and you can give money here.
Restaurants and Food
Over £40,000 has been raised in just a few days by this initiative that rallies restaurants to donate £1-£2 from each bill to UNICEF UK’s Ukraine appeal. So far the Big Mamma Group, Blacklock, Kol, Soho House, St. John, Ottolenghi, Homeslice, Petersham Nurseries, Sabor and Fallow and many more London restaurants have signed up. You can also get involved at home by cooking Ukrainian recipes and donating via JustGiving. There are lots of wonderful free recipes to try towards the bottom of the page here from Olia Hercules and Alissa Timoshkina. You can also follow them on Instagram @oliahercules and @alissatimoshinka.
Donations, Protests and More
There are plenty of charities to donate to. One that came recommended to us by some Ukrainian friends is the Help Ukraine Emergency Appeal. Working with accredited and registered Ukrainian charities they provide medicines, food and critical services that support the most vulnerable. £70 could pay for a food and hygiene pack for a family of four for a month.
Supplies including power banks (for charging phones), backpacks, male socks (new), camping mats, sleeping bags, protein/energy bars, painkillers, Lemsip, wound dressing materials, first aid kit, warm blankets, hot water bottles, insulated flasks, baby food, nappies and sanitary products are much needed. (NB. Not clothes). These can be dropped at the following locations over the coming week:
Holland Park – Ukrainian House, 154 Holland Park Avenue W11 4UH (daily 8am-10pm)
Twickenham – Prosperity Restaurant, 59 York Street, TW1 3LP, Sunday 12am-9pm (call 07853514567)
Stratford – Restaurant XIX, 369 High Street, E15 4QZ, daily 9am-10pm (Maria 07561322029)
Hounslow – Former USSR Retail Shop, 79-83 High Street, Hounslow, TW3 1RB (ask for Valerie)
To find out where the latest protests are happening in London then follow British Ukrainian Aid.
And finally, we are completely in awe of the courage and bravery shown by President Zelensky and his family. You can follow him directly on Instagram @zelenskiy_official.
