FOOD:

Ottolenghi Chelsea opening

Chelsea residents, rejoice! Yotam Ottolenghi is lighting up the Royal Borough this month with the debut of a brand new deli – his largest yet – on the picturesque Pavilion Road. This all-day spot will see visitors through from morning to early evening with breakfast treats (think French toast with berry jam and scrambled eggs with salmon and focaccia), to vibrant salads and delightful cakes (tangerine and pistachio loaf with yuzu icing, anyone?) throughout the day. There’ll be one communal seating area plus two smaller tables for locals dining in, set among informal yet elegant interiors by Alex Meitlis, including a stunning terrazzo floor by artist Ivo Bisagno.

Lisboeta on Charlotte Street from Nuno Mendes

Nuno Mendes has been responsible for some of the most acclaimed kitchens of the past 10 years (Viajante, Chiltern Firehouse) but his new Charlotte Street restaurant feels much closer to the chef’s heart. A Lisboeta is a native of Lisbon and this love-letter to the chef’s home city will feature both tapas-like petiscos and larger dishes to share family-style, served at a ground-floor bar made from repurposed tram wood, and a first-floor dining room. A basement chef’s table, meanwhile, will serve more experimental cooking when Lisboeta opens in spring.
